Seersucker is the name given to a puckered light cotton (and now sometimes linen) fabric, usually striped. The word ‘seersucker’ itself has Hindi and Persian origins - ”shir o shekar” – meaning milk and sugar, most likely referring to the smooth stripe and puckered stripe combination of the fabric.
