I'm not a professional artist or anything, but I do pen & ink rendering as a hobby (primarily abstract and lettering) so I completely sympathize with this. This is the stylus that I personally own. It's from Wacom, who if you are unfamiliar with, is the leading manufacturer of tablet interfaces (not as in tablet computing, but direct digital inputs for artists). It's extremely smooth and very well balanced like a good pen but isn't too heavy. It's a little pricey (though I actually paid $30 so I guess it's on sale now) but I think you get what you pay for. Benjamin GalavizI have this one and like it a lot. Really easy to use. My 5 year old daughter started to use it to play her games.
Christopher DokkoThis is the stylus I owned previously and though the price point makes it extremely attractive, the tip started to degrade after heavy use. It still registers contact on my iPad, but leaves black marks on the screen. :( If you do decide on this one, I recommend getting the more-expensive stylus+pen combo (I owned both) - not because of superior construction or materials but because the unit is longer in order to accommodate the pen, which makes the feel and weight a little better which, in my opinion, is important to rendering comfortably.
