Kinda like this: http://bit.ly/tsnCeb but I don't think this is long enough for me (I'm 5'9" and on the leggy side). It's prolly the unsexiest thing in the world to ask for, but I'm determined to get a lasting hardcore coat to walk Izzy in this winter!

cassandra girard suggested Mountain Hardwear Women's Downtown Coat - Free Shipping on Mountain Hardwear ord from moosejaw.com
This coat is serious quality, knee length, hooded, down filled and super warm. It comes in a couple colours (I like the black one) and is in stock for small and medium. A bit more than 250 but comes with free shipping.4 comments:

Melissa Pierce suggested Women's Tall Outerwear & Blazers from eddiebauer.com
My arms are too long for most coats, Eddie Bauer has some decent tall women's jackets. Tall outerwear for women at Eddie Bauer. Shop women's tall outerwear: jackets, coats, parkas, blazers or vests.3 comments:
Tara HuntObviously you haven't lived through a NYC (or canadian) winter! But wait...you are in Chicago! You should know this won't cut it. ;)
Melissa PierceHa, that's the pic it pulled up! There are a bunch of super warm ones on the page! Also - I found this nice long DKNY one on Overstock http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/DKNY-Womens-Long-Quilted-Zip-front-Down-Coat/5129186/product.html?cid=123620 - Chicago winters are no joke, I wear my silk longjohns under just about everything.
Tara HuntAh gotcha. ;) You can choose the images displayed in the popup, but I know there are sites that use flash images, so it's irritating (endless.com drives me bonkers for that).

cassandra girard suggested Marc New York Quilted Coat with Coyote Fur Trim from nordstrom.com
Is this a bit to chi chi? I think its a little shorter...but reallllly nice and fitted, down filled also and real fur? (although they say Canadian coyote fur, not sure why and not sure it that makes it more ethical?) I have a couple more coming :) - but gooood price... A lustrous sheen styles a long puffer topped with a genuine coyote fur ruff. A stitched belt cinches the waist for a flattering fit.1 comment:
Deanna Zandtnot too chichi at all! loooooove it. Just doesn't have waterproof info, which I've learned means it isn't...

Tara Hunt suggested Moncler Melina Fur Jackets Light Beige from moncler5outlet.com
You mentioned Canadians, eh? Well talk about wind and sleet...! But we usually buy Canada Goose coats (pretty penny! start at $500). This one by Moncler is nice, though and billed as waterproof. I love the color and that it's belted (so you don't end up looking like a michelen tire!)3 comments:
Deanna ZandtDo you know if that site is legit, Tara? I found one that I TOTALLY love, but the fast 'n' loose grammar and location in China gives me pause. I don't mind a knockoff as long as the quality is good... (I went and looked at other Moncler coats, and they were like $1500 at Bloomingdales. o_O)
Tara HuntYeah. I don't know. I've never shopped there. I found the site listed on Google product search, but I don't know if they validate their retailers or not. Tis true that Moncler is usually a bit spendier than these prices...
Tara HuntOn their site:
Why are your items so cheap compared to other sites , are you guys legit?
our buyers and we buy overstocks & overuns from the same factories that make for famous companys and we have been doing this for many years. Sasha Westin suggested Women's Shimmer Down Coat from Lands' End from Lands' End
I've had really good luck with my Lands End coat I bought 3 or 4 years ago. This one isn't the MOST stylish they've carried but I can attest to the warm and weather-proof qualities of their outerwear. And I like the hood on this one (removable). Good luck!No one commented yet

Deanna Zandt suggested 2011 Fjord Down Coat from brooklynindustries.com
We have a winner! I got this one today, and it was on sale 30% off. It's not listed here, but it's also water-repellent. On Melissa's advice, I bought some Nikwax to make it fully waterproof (there's one for down goods: http://amzn.to/s4HyeF ). My pop also suggested, since I've busted so many zippers, to get canning wax and put it on the zippers to make them last longer. Whee.No one commented yet

ooooo, thank you! checking it out now!!
BTW, leave it to the Canadians to find this one for me... ;-)
D'oh-- so close. But it's not waterproof. It gets so sleet-y & wet-snow-y here, that's a dealbreaker. Boooo, NYC winters!
Ohhh! Sh-t was sure it was...I have more tricks up my sleeves....lol...stay tuned!
